Most of the zoos I visit have Komodo dragons. I met this one at the Los Angeles Zoo in 2017.
I’m actually quite fond of watching them, although they can hold a still pose for hours it seems. I think they are fed every few days, matching the wild where large prey killed would be consumed over days.
They are living dinosaurs. Maybe why I like them. I also think they are quite beautiful.
These portraits are 11×14, oil on canvas board. I painted most of them in the winter and spring of 2018/19 because I needed to sit to work. A slow-healing foot injury had me off my feet.
