This photo was taken outside Cairo in 1985. There are two huge Ramses statures. One stands tall outside. The other, lying on his back, has a building built around it. He’s the more intimate of the two. You can see the hieroglyphic of his favorite wife carved into his thigh. I thought he was quite beautiful. And 3000 years old.
Ramses in Shadow measures approximately 16.75″ x 11.5.” World Travel prints are editions of 30, signed and numbered. They are printed to order on Epson Velvet Fine Art 13″ x 19″ matte paper, with an Epson 3880 9-ink printer.
These photographs were taken in the pre-digital days when one shot Kodachrome, film took up space, and cameras weighed a lot. In 1985 I took 18 months to travel around the world, shooting slides and painting watercolors. In 2014 I went back through these images to choose some of my favorites for a series of limited edition prints.
